Mental health plays one of the most significant roles in the case of our overall wellbeing and is, undoubtedly one of the most under-rated one. Studies have revealed that one in every four people, in the entire global arena, will face mental concerns at least one point in their life or the other.

Almost, every day, we get bombarded with the diet plans, exercise programs as well as blog posts describing how important physical health is and what food, drinks and vitamin supplements to take and what to avoid.

What is mostly ignored is our mental health. Just because it is not overtly visible, most often people do not take note of it. There can be many reasons for this. Some we can understand and some are incomprehensible as they just impact our subconscious mind. But, whatever the case may be, the mental health problems can still be addressed. And for that you do not have to dedicate a lot of your effort and time.

One of the greatest mistake that we commit each day is self-criticism. We keep on brooding over our past mistakes and blame ourselves for anything wring that has ever happened to us.

But remember the proverb “to err is human”? It truly is. It is only by identifying and rectifying our mistakes that we get to assess ourselves and thus, make progress. You have to accept that it is okay to be wrong, at times.

Stay away from self-criticism

Try to treat yourself with respect and kindness. Get used to pampering yourself. Make time for things that you love to do. Plant a garden, stare at things, do something stupid and laugh at it. Learn a new language, take dance or karate lessons or try playing an instrument. Try something different each day that you have never done before. To learn to value your life you should first start to value yourself. Only then you will be able to achieve your motive.

I so needed this today. I struggle with Anxiety and Depression and think there needs to be so much more of THIS on the internet! As a society, we ignore the mental health and focus completely on physical looks, not even health necessarily. I really appreciate you shedding some light on this issue and introducing some coping strategies!

Did you know that trees emit chemicals that are calming to humans?! Add that to the list of reasons why taking a walk in the woods or otherwise indulging in nature is such a good idea when your thoughts are starting to weigh you down!

These are great tips! One that I always go back to is remember to smile! There’s a psychological experiment where a group of people put a pen in their mouths. Half the group was told to put it between their teeth, so their face looked like a grin, and the other half was told to close their lips around it, so their mouth was shaped like an O. At the end, the psychologists tested their moods, and the people who acted like they were grinning were actually happier than those who didn’t! So, even when you’re fake smiling, you’re boosting your mood!
