This morning I received a video on WhatsApp that I found so inspiring that I have to share it with you. It’s not your typical life lessons speech of following your dreams, be happy, spend time with people you love etc. Instead Tim Minchin has a more sarcastic take on what life is about:

“Don’t seek happiness. Happiness is like an orgasm. If you think about it too much, it goes away.” Tim Minchin

No worries, there is much more to it. Listen to these 6 minutes, you won’t regret it 🙂

Traveling seems like far off dream to those of us who find ourselves slaving away just to make ends meet. Somewhere between student debt, rent, and utilities it can be hard enough to afford groceries let alone take the time to go anywhere. This causes all too many to fall into the trap of saying, “I’ll just have to put ____ off until I have enough money and my finances are more stable.”

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? Renowned Orange County Restaurants? The Scottish Highlands? India? Japan?

Well, you might be surprised to learn that being broke is the perfect time to pack your bags and say ciao, sayonara, and auf Wiedersehen to the daily grind. Don’t believe me? Here’s why.

You Have Nothing to Lose

It doesn’t take a guru to tell you that money does not equal happiness, but it might take one to tell you that when you have the fewest options is truly when you have the most. Aside from a constant uphill battle to a false sense of financial security, what’s holding you back from seeing the world?

Picking up and leaving can seem like a horrifying idea to many, but the world is filled with opportunities and experiences just waiting for you. Sure, you can always keep working at that temp job until you find something slightly better but is that really what you want to do for the next few years of your life?

Once you strip away the material possessions and the job you can’t stand, all that’s holding you back is fear. Be courageous! Head overseas, join the Peace Corps, do what it is you truly want to do.

Money Will Take Care of Itself

If the job you have is barely paying the bills, then you can easily find another one of those anywhere else you go. Plus, you can focus your finances on simply eating and drinking water rather than an electricity or heating bill. The opportunities for work are endless when traveling and more businesses than you might think are willing to pay under the table or offer a free meal for washing a few dishes.

That might sound like more of a dream than traveling itself, but it’s true. What do you think the people who up and decide to backpack across Europe do to keep themselves afloat? Plenty find work online as writers or through sites like Craigslist, using free WiFi spots and wall chargers wherever they go.

There are also plenty of job opportunities to teach English without a degree, which tend to pay a decent wage. You’ll be surprised at how much money you can put away once you cut out your expenses and start traveling. Money will take care of itself, it always does.

The Experience Is Worth It!

Meeting new people from new cultures, trying exotic foods, and doing a little soul searching along the way are all part of the traveling experience. Your mind, body, and soul will be enriched as you broaden your horizons and expand your worldview.

Stop making excuses for why you can’t leave your dead-end job and travel. Instead, start thinking of the ways that you can. There’s no better time than right here and now to pursue your dreams. So, what are you waiting for!

I’m Marta de la Presa, jewelry designer and moments hunter, a bohemian spirit eager to discover the world. I am deeply inspired by nature, music and love. I am currently based out of Madrid, Spain , where I develop my jewelry bussines, but my home and heart are in the Canary Islands. I’m passionate about photography, so I had the idea to also create a webpage / instagram where to post my own photographs, called @capturingmomentsbymarta.

What do you love about making jewellery and how did you discover your passion?

What I like most about  making jewelry  is that I can be myself. Is my way of expression, so I plaster all my personality, emotions, feelings in them. Since I was little girl I loved the gemstones, so I think that contributed too… lol 🙂

How did you venture into jewellery making?

I found my vocation in my grandmother Matilde, who was also a jeweler.

How would you describe your style?

I feel very identified with jewelry destined for supernatural purposes by the force they transmit, in that case the jewel is  presented  as a protagonist, so designing this type of pieces has become a personal Chimera. I firmly believe that the gems give us their energy and help us to stay connected to nature. Traveling and discover other cultures has opened my mind to an artistic level.

What’s the inspiration for your  designs?

I don´t  have  only one  channel of influence, so I don´t like to pigeonhole myself in a certain stream style, since inspiration flows just as we do, every day your mind is enriched and bring you new things to the designs, so I  try to let me take my instinct and create collections that represent me as an artist, but also give a meaning to each person  who wears the jewel.

How do you make your jewellery and where do you source your materials?

I currently share a workshop with more people, so not all the tools are mine… I think it was the best way to start and save some money. The manufacturing process consists of several steps. First of all, the design is realized with a 3D program, with wich a real-scale wax piece impression is made. With that piece, we  realize the metal casting and finally the polishing and the gemstones setting. I choose the gems one by one by  myself.

What’s a typical day in your studio?

We never have a day like the day before… Is a parade of suppliers and  customers, so I had a great time talking to people! I always have my tea cup with me, I’m obsessed, haha. I love drawing from seeing my stones on the table. It’s the best way to inspire me.

How can people buy your jewels?

On my website.  Orders can be made via email (martadelapresajewels@gmail.com).

What’s your favourite quote?

“Life is what happens while we make other plans”.

More often than not, the flaws and imperfections on the surface of our skin are a reflection of something not being quite right on the inside. Stress, unhealthy lifestyle, lack of dedication to the inner well-being, these are just some of the things a modern day person is guilty of, and we can’t hide it – it’s written all over our faces. So, just like you wouldn’t rub lotion on your chest in an attempt to eradicate a heart problem, the solution to any skin issue is not to be found in countless expensive beauty and skincare products.

As Al Sears, M.D. says, the secret to glowing, supple skin that turns heads wherever you go isn’t at the bottom of some expensive cream or prescription lotion tube. In fact, it has absolutely nothing to do with what you put on the outside. So, today, we are making it our goal to broaden your mind and inspire you to go back to basics, teach you how to treat your body right and it will show its gratitude with radiance that you so long for, so let’s begin your journey today.

How to Achieve Radiance from Inside Out

Say goodbye to bad habits

Smoking and drinking have no place in your life, as their damaging effects have been proven a long time ago. This isn’t only about skin; this is about your health and lifespan as well. However, as our main subject today is skin, let’s take a minute and explore the “lovely” side effects of smoking.

Nicotine reduces elasticity and narrows blood vessels, which prevents oxygen and nutrients from arriving at the capillaries in the dermis, resulting in premature wrinkles and sagging skin. Alcohol dehydrates the skin, causing it to look shriveled and dull, especially if the drink contains additional ingredients such as sugar, which can cause or aggravate acne. You want radiant skin? All bad habits must go.

In great diet lies great skin

If you’re a healthy diet neophyte, take baby steps and start with green and organic foods, e.g. vegetables and fruits. Some of the foods that have been bestowed with a name ‘superfoods’, like algae, berries, and many others are a great place to start.

We are all different, and our bodies march to the beat of their own drum; some may be gluten-sensitive, others may have dairy intolerance so a personalized plan is a great idea. However, one thing we should all do is banish foods loaded with sugar and carbs from our lives and our bodies. They are just empty calories that provide you with no real energy, and can cause inflammation, breakouts and numerous other skin issues.

Superfoods, on the other hand, are absolute magic. For instance, ginger is best known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, tomatoes help slow down skin-aging, and artichokes contain an antioxidant that can clear blemish-prone skin. The list of benefits that come when superfoods enter your life can make for an entire book, so dive in and let them change your skin and your life.

Fight external factors

There are, unfortunately, certain factors that are beyond our control. One of them is the negative impact of UV rays. While we don’t need to adopt a twelve-step Korean skincare regimen and surround ourselves with an abundance of synthetic products, we do need a helping hand to keep our skin from harm’s way.
Luckily, there are cosmetics companies that have recognized the value of Mother Nature and are committed to providing only the best using her help. I found my personal natural oasis in Dr Hauschka Quince Day Cream that protects and hydrates my slightly dry skin. Aside from splashing my face with water in the morning, this is the only product I need and wholeheartedly recommend.

How to Achieve Radiance from Inside Out

Foster what is good

Aside from a healthy diet and a life free of vices, for a healthy body, mind and skin, there is also the magic of movement. According to the trusty WebMD when you exercise, your blood flow inevitably increases, and that in turn helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital.

You can adopt any type of workout routine that suits you, but one that benefits not only the skin and the body, but also helps achieve serenity and calm is yoga in combination with meditation. Stress is a plague of the modern-day society, and yoga is here to balance your mind and body, and great skin that comes as a result is just an additional perk.

The Root Chakra aka Muladhara

Earth Element

Colour Associated with the Root Chakra: Red

Root Chakra Affirmation

“I am safe in the world around me. I belong in this world, and am a part of Gaia (mother-earth). I am at peace with my surroundings, with the people and the events that occur.”

The Root Chakra is the foundation of our body, being the first chakra, and it is what keeps us grounded. It is located at the base of the spine, near the tailbone. It is what connects us to the physical world. There are a number of ways in which we can nurture our Root Chakra. As part of a balanced life, it’s important to give time and energy to ensuring your chakras are cleansed and opened. The Root Chakra should always be the first chakra you attend to. If you find yourself feeling confused or uncertain, it may be time to open and cleanse this important chakra. Yoga, Tai Chi and pilates are good movements to make the Root Chakra stronger as we focus on parts of the body one at a time.

This is a highly important chakra to maintain harmony within as it gives us inner security and identity of self. If we have a closed off Root Chakra, we feel insecure and tense. Our tension comes out as fear which can spin out of control and turn to feelings of terror. These waves of emotions can create a need to defend our own survival when there’s actually nothing to defend. Some signs that your Root Chakra is closed is restlessness, a lack of energy, unpredictable emotions, obsession and selfishness. Some of the crystals that assist in healing and opening the Root Chakra include Hematite, Black Obsidian, Garnet and Smoky Quartz. Foods that assist in healing our root chakra are red in color like apples or beets as well as red cayenne peppers. Ground vegetables like squash, potatoes and carrots. Eggs and red meat such as venison and beef are also recommended.

Exercising your Root Chakra

To allow us to better connect to the ground and thus strengthening our root chakra, there is a simple exercise you can do:

  • Start by standing straight with your feet shoulder-width apart
  • Bend your knees a little and pull your pelvis slightly forward
  • Focus on keeping balance, a good gauge for this is feeling that the soles of your feet have evenly distributed weight
  • Sink your feet downward. Some like to think of their feet as becoming rooted to the ground. You can visually roots coming out of your feet and becoming a part of the earth

Stay in this position for a few minutes at least and focus on the feeling of being grounded to the earth. Inhale and exhale. Be in the moment.

A Balanced Root Chakra: A Happier You

When your Root Chakra is balanced, you will feel secure and life’s tasks will take little effort. The doubts you may have experienced in the past will vanish from your life. You will manifest things easily and there is little that will go wrong. If something should go wrong, you will be able to cope with it and turn it into something beautiful. The quality of the life that you live will improve greatly when you nurture the Root Chakra. You will become a part of the universe and it’s energy once again, making you feel complete.
