I’m Marta de la Presa, jewelry designer and moments hunter, a bohemian spirit eager to discover the world. I am deeply inspired by nature, music and love. I am currently based out of Madrid, Spain , where I develop my jewelry bussines, but my home and heart are in the Canary Islands. I’m passionate about photography, so I had the idea to also create a webpage / instagram where to post my own photographs, called @capturingmomentsbymarta.
What do you love about making jewellery and how did you discover your passion?
What I like most about making jewelry is that I can be myself. Is my way of expression, so I plaster all my personality, emotions, feelings in them. Since I was little girl I loved the gemstones, so I think that contributed too… lol 🙂
How did you venture into jewellery making?
I found my vocation in my grandmother Matilde, who was also a jeweler.
How would you describe your style?
I feel very identified with jewelry destined for supernatural purposes by the force they transmit, in that case the jewel is presented as a protagonist, so designing this type of pieces has become a personal Chimera. I firmly believe that the gems give us their energy and help us to stay connected to nature. Traveling and discover other cultures has opened my mind to an artistic level.
What’s the inspiration for your designs?
I don´t have only one channel of influence, so I don´t like to pigeonhole myself in a certain stream style, since inspiration flows just as we do, every day your mind is enriched and bring you new things to the designs, so I try to let me take my instinct and create collections that represent me as an artist, but also give a meaning to each person who wears the jewel.
How do you make your jewellery and where do you source your materials?
I currently share a workshop with more people, so not all the tools are mine… I think it was the best way to start and save some money. The manufacturing process consists of several steps. First of all, the design is realized with a 3D program, with wich a real-scale wax piece impression is made. With that piece, we realize the metal casting and finally the polishing and the gemstones setting. I choose the gems one by one by myself.
What’s a typical day in your studio?
We never have a day like the day before… Is a parade of suppliers and customers, so I had a great time talking to people! I always have my tea cup with me, I’m obsessed, haha. I love drawing from seeing my stones on the table. It’s the best way to inspire me.
How can people buy your jewels?
What’s your favourite quote?
“Life is what happens while we make other plans”.
