Why you have to become YOU to find happiness

Happiness is very simple. Yet in today’s hectic world we often forget take care of ourselves. Instead we are raised to believe that being happy is dependent on external factors like status, wealth, looks and similar standards by which we measure our success and, wrongly, our level of happiness.

Don’t allow other people to define your happiness

If you allow other people or certain events to determine whether you are happy or sad, you restrict yourself to think that happiness is something external to yourself. It’s not. Only YOU ALONE can determine your happiness. It’s solely in your hands what you make of your life and how you choose to live it.

Happiness comes from within YOU

Outside will always be outside. Don’t let your happiness be determined by factors that you cannot influence. Internal happiness is only born when you become yourself. Even in this hectic world you need to find a place to calm down, to find back to yourself and listen to your inner voice.

Is the new pair of shoes really so important? Do you actually need that sort of car? What do you gain from comparing yourself with other people all the time? Isn’t your life already perfect the way it is? Isn’t there so much in your life to be grateful for? Why do you always want more; worry about the future; forget the present moment? Does having more finally make you happy?!

Or will you just want even more afterwards?

Happiness does not come from external stimulation: Happiness is generated from within you. You cannot influence the outside. You can only influence what is inside. Your own happiness is solely a matter of your own perception. It’s in your head. It’s not in external factors.

How to Find Happiness

Don’t let worrying about the future take away your chance to be happy in this very moment.

Don’t focus on the external world. Instead focus on your mind, your true self. Count your blessings – there will be so much for which you should be grateful! Treat yourself nicely and be your own best friend, not your worst enemy.

I think this quote by Robert M. Pirsig describes perfectly that zen and happiness can only be found within us: “The only Zen you can find on the tops of mountains is the Zen you bring up there.” It’s so true but sometimes it takes a lot of practise to live by it. Only you alone can define yourself!! Major key. Something I’ve finally grasped. Thank you!

Great read! Happiness is in the present moment, we can’t “find” it or expect it to be somewhere in the future.
Focus on the now and allow yourself to enjoy it.

    Thanks for sharing,

This is so true. I always worry about things that have not even happened yet! I should be more mindful and focus on today and the little miracles that happen that I often take for granted.
